Rat Terrier - Medium - Young - Male - Dog - Spike
* { font:inherit; } Thank you to those of you who participated in GiveMN.org's matched funds day! My name started out as Spike, but my former owner started calling me Duke too, so take your pick. I am very confused and sad. My person lost his job because of the economy, then his house, and now he is living in an apartment where he can no longer keep me. He wants what is best for me, so I am hoping you will want me. I am house broken and never have an accident. I am used to being an only dog and very loved, so I am looking for lots love. I am a little intimidated by the four dogs at my foster home, even though two are Rat Terriers like me, but I am getting along with them well. I will, hopefully soon, be learning to walk on a leash. I don't like leashes so my person trained me to walk with him without a lead. Now that he is not here my foster mom is afraid I might run away to look for him, so she will try to teach me to walk like a dog - on a leash. I have a favorite blanket I love, and I like to sleep in bed with my person, under the covers. I love to play with squeaky toys, play tug of war, run, chase birds and go for a ride in the car. I like having a chair by a window that I can sit on and watch what's going on outside. I even love playing in the snow in the winter time, but you need to be careful because if I play too long my feet get cold and sore. I love people, a lot of attention, and being brushed. I don't like loud noises, large dogs, cats and baths. I am not used to young children, or too many children trying to play with me at once. A home with older children or just adults would be best for me, and I enjoy being with men or older boys. Rat Terriers are very loyal and devoted dogs. We are also very smart and learn quickly. Did you know that many circus dogs are Rat Terriers because we learn tricks easily. We bond in a very special way with our people, so much so, that Rat Terrier owners become devoted fans of my breed. Please help me, I just want to be someone's special dog again.
